Facilities

Several rooms, fully equipped for small animal procedures, as well as a surgical unit for large animal procedures, are available in the Core Facility Experimental Biomodels for in vivo interventions.

Procedure rooms for small laboratory animals

Several rooms are available to researchers for procedures on mice, rats, hamsters, and guinea pigs. Upon request, the following equipment can be provided:

  • Anesthesia devices
  • Microscopes
  • Thermoshakers
  • Analytical and small animal scales
  • Centrifuges
  • Heating pads and infrared lamps
  • Clippers
  • Consumables

Surgical Unit

The ISO 9001:2015 certified surgical unit enables procedures on large laboratory animals such as pigs, sheep, goats, and rabbits:

  • Two operating rooms
  •  Preparation/recovery room
  •  Sterilization area
  •  Equipped with anesthesia devices, endoscopy tower, C-arm, ultrasound, blood analysis devices, consumables

On the campus of the Medical University of Graz, there is also the possibility for computed tomography (CT) analyses on large laboratory animals.
